It is mainly used as a vulcanizing agent, wood preservative, catalyst, gelling agent, heat stabilizer, hydrogen flame extinguishing agent, and can also be used as a solvent for paraffin, resin, and petroleum. It is also used for flame retardant treatment of cotton and preparation of active silica.
