Cyclohexanone, an organic compound, is a saturated cyclic ketone containing carbonyl carbon atoms within a six membered ring. A colorless transparent liquid with a earthy odor, and containing traces of phenol, it has a mint flavor. The impure substance is a light yellow color that develops with the formation of impurities over time, appearing in a water white to grayish yellow color with a strong pungent odor. Explosion when mixed with air * is the same as open chain saturated ketones. There is insufficient evidence of carcinogenicity of cyclohexanone, which is mainly used as an organic synthesis raw material and solvent in industry, such as it can dissolve nitrocellulose, coatings, paints, etc.

Flammable, with high heat and open flames, there is a risk of combustion. React violently in contact with oxidants. [2]

Function and purpose

Cyclohexanone is an important chemical raw material and the main intermediate in the production of nylon, caprolactam, and adipic acid. It is also an important industrial solvent, such as for paints, especially those containing nitrocellulose, vinyl chloride polymers and their copolymers or methacrylate polymer paints. An excellent solvent for organic phosphorus insecticides and many similar pesticides, used as a solvent for dyes, as a viscous solvent for piston type aviation lubricants, and as a solvent for grease, wax, and rubber. It is also used as a homogenizing agent for dyeing and fading silk, a degreasing agent for polishing metals, a wood coloring paint, and can be used for cyclohexanone film removal, stain removal, and spot removal. Cyclohexanone and cyanoacetic acid are condensed to obtain cyclohexylidene cyanoacetic acid, which is then eliminated and decarboxylated to obtain cyclohexene acetonitrile. After hydrogenation, cyclohexene ethylamine [3399-73-3] is obtained. cyclohexene ethylamine is an intermediate of drugs such as Kemeiche and Temaren.

Used as a high boiling solvent for nail polish and other cosmetics. Usually, mixed solvents are prepared with low boiling point solvents and medium boiling point solvents to obtain appropriate volatilization rate and viscosity.
