Introduction to Sulfur Free Odorants
Sulfur free odorant is a colorless and transparent liquid with a strong pungent odor. It is a mixture composed of C4H6O2 (methyl acrylate), C5H8O2 (ethyl acrylate), C7H10N2 (3-ethyl-2-methylpyrazine), and C15H240 (2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-methylphenol), with mass fractions of 37.4%, 60.0%, 2.5%, and 0.1%, respectively. The relative molecular weight of sulfur free odorant is 95.543, with a boiling point of 80 ℃ and a melting point of -80 ℃ under normal pressure. The self ignition temperature is 395 ℃, and the explosion limit is 1.6% to 23.0%. It is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol and ether. Sulfur free odorants do not contain sulfur, and the combustion products do not pollute the environment. (The commonly used odorants are tetrahydrothiophene (THT) and thiol mixture (TBM), both of which contain sulfur (S) elements. When burned, they produce SO2 gas, which affects the quality of gas combustion and also affects the product quality of some industrial users, while polluting the environment.)

The Benefits of Sulfur Free Odorants to the Environmet
- From the perspective of emissions, when the amount of tetrahydrothiophene added is 15mg/m3, the emission of sulfur dioxide is 10 When the dosage of sulfur free odorant Gasordor S-Free is 12mg/m3, the emission of nitrogen dioxide is 0. 9mg SO2/m3 22mg NO2/m3.
- In addition, the third component in the sulfur free odorant Gasordor S-Free is non-toxic (see Arkema product specifications)
- At the same time, all acrylic ester manufacturers in the world (Arkema is the world’s largest producer) currently add polymerization inhibitors to their products to prevent and avoid polymerization reactions.
- French company Arkema has also developed a low sulfur odorant using acrylic ester and conducted experiments in Germany. This odorant (SpotLeak Z) also uses acrylic ester.
