CAS No. 79-37-8
Other Name :
Oxalyl dichloride;
Ethanedioyl
MF:C2Cl2O2

Acetyl chloride, also known as “oxalyl chloride”, is a diacyl chloride derived from oxalic acid, with the chemical formula (COCl) 2. Acetyl chloride is a colorless, smoky liquid with a pungent odor. It can be prepared by reacting oxalic acid with phosphorus pentachloride and is mainly used as a reagent for organic synthesis.

Molecular weight: 126.93

CAS No 79-37-8

EINECS: 201-200-2

Mix anhydrous oxalic acid with phosphorus pentachloride and slowly heat it at around 64 ℃ until the reaction stops without hydrogen chloride. Distill the crude product to obtain oxalyl chloride. Alternatively, it can be obtained by reacting oxalic acid with carbonyl chloride (phosgene).

purpose

  1. Oxacyl chloride is an acylation reagent used for the preparation of carbonyl chloride, phosphoryl dichloride, chlorinated alkanes, and acyl isocyanides.

Protection:

1: Respiratory protection: When exposed to vapor or smoke, it is necessary to wear a gas mask or an air supplied helmet. When rescuing or escaping in an emergency, it is recommended to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus.

2: Eye protection: Wear chemical safety goggles.

3: Protective clothing: Wear work clothes (made of anti-corrosion materials).

4: Hand protection: Wear rubber gloves.

5: Other: After work, take a shower and change clothes. Store clothes contaminated with toxins separately and reuse them after washing. Maintain good hygiene habits.
